The Kawangware campus, located in an impoverished slum in Nairobi, is both a day school and a boarding school for 150 students preschool through sixth grade. The campus employs nine teachers, and one matron to oversee the dormitory.

In order to experience a safer living environment, older students (Grades 6-7) were offered the opportunity to move to the open dormitory in Bumala. As a result, the MCC, is no longer paying the tuition of the students to local middle schools.

As with in Bumala, the FMCC is concerned with the health of the students. In March of 2010, Chairman of the Board Elisabeth Fulton took the older female students to receive HIV testing. Fortunately, all the students tested were not HIV positive.

In the interest of sustainability, rising costs in Kawangware have driven the FMCC to focus on fundraising for a permanent facility in Kawangware. Moreover, this will be an alternative to the students who do not wish to move to Bumala.

A message from the head Kawangware Teacher

The school at Nairobi is doing well and we are grateful of what you are doing.

            Thanks alot for what you are doing for MCC in Kenya especially in Nairobi school.
Todd Lorentz, head of One Child's Village, [the FMCC's Canadian Partner] was with us and we enjoyed very much being with him. He did some things for us:

  •  Repair the water tank
  • purchase of desks
  • purchase of teacher's chairs, counter books and pens
  • He also bought some utensils for students and teachers

Last week Jacob and Barbara were also with us where Barbara gave some amount 50,000ksh to Jacob to;

  • Make a cupboard for keeping textbooks and other things
  • Repair some classes which leak during rainy season
  • Buy more utensils such as spoons and cups

      Thanks alot for your concern, teachers are also very happy for what you are doing for them. Please welcome in kenya as we are very eager to see you, great the whole family including Sadie.
Thanks alot God bless you.

Yours
 John-Nrb
