MABIBI means grandmother in the African language of Swahili, and grandmothers are the only hope left for millions of orphans in Africa who have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS. The grandmothers now carry the burden for two generations as they struggle to provide the most basic of needs for their grandchildren. Recognizing their struggle is only the beginning. We can significantly change the lives of whole communities by prov
iding the fundamental resources for survival. Friend’s of the Mercy Children’s Centre recognized their struggle and is now assisting grandmothers in Kenya by providing the fundamental resources to about 500 orphans. Help us to expand their help by contributing to the Mabibi Project.
The funds raised will go directly to having a water well built for a severely impoverished community with a large number of orphans as well as provide basic needs such as seed, gardening tools, roof repairs, chickens, milk cows, etc. The extent of what can be done will depend on your donations. The large goal is a water well that will service the orphanage and the surrounding community, largely made up of these grandmothers and the children they are raising. The Mabibi Project is not solely focused on the orphans, but the neglected population of grandmothers now responsible for raising the children orphaned by HIV/AIDS . It is about self sufficiency. By providing them with some basic needs, they may help themselves and the next generation that is in their care and in deplorable conditions. The Friends of the Mercy Centre, the Mabibi Project, and One Child's Village are Volunteer Projects. Adhering to a strict code of ethics, no one working on The Mabibi Project, Friends of Mercy Children's Centre or One Child's Village is monetarily compensated for their efforts.
