Global Giving Challenge
The Mercy Children's Centre is part of August's Global Giving Challenge. Global Giving is an online hub of non-profit development projects and causes. This month, we have a project to help meet our critical school supplies that are not covered in our regular budget. Click Here to Check it out! These include: a text book for each child in Class 3-8, new uniforms and shoes for 75 students, new tables and desks, new beds at the dormitories, and cooking supplies. This will ensure that the school is well equipped through the end of 2011 and well into 2012. Not only are these supplies important for our students, but in order to become a permanent member of global giving, the MCC needs to raise $4,000 from 50 donors. Please help the MCC by donating. Not contribution is too small:
- $10 Average cost for 2 textbooks (172 textbooks needed)
- $26 Average cost per uniform with shoes (75 needed
- $28 Average cost per desk set (30 needed)
- $67 Average cost per bed (8 needed)
- $533 Cost for full cooking set, large pots and water containers for dormitories

A big thanks from the Amis, FMCC's new French affliate to Carrie Pottinger at the IEA, who will be sponsoring the Kawangware Head Teacher John Wafula for the year. Her generous donation will help ensure that our staff knows that we value their efforts and so they can provide the highest quality of education for our students.

The Bumala school is as beautiful as ever educating 300 kids and housing 35 in the dormitories.. The latest new water well (deeper, electric pump) is working pretty well, (thanks to Meryl Tihanyi) and they are having a nice rainy season which should help the vegetables. We started the first year of high school classes, which will soon be self supporting, by having two-thirds of the 28 stays pay fees to offset the costs of the MCC primary school graduates.

Well Sucessfully Drilled

On February 6th, Charles Oduor, the Mercy Children Centre informed the FMCC that the drilling project was a success. After a mere 5 hours, they were able to fill the 5000 Liter tank. This water will help ensure that the school and students have access to clean water. The project was the result of funds raised by the Mabibi Project.
